He made a comeback in 2015 against Sri Lanka and later in the tougher series against Australia. Carlos Brathwaite was phenomenal in the Boxing Day test with the bat and ball.
Early Career
It is a little-known fact that before being selected as the first-class cricketer for West Indies, Carlos Brathwaite had a vast experience in the Irish Domestic circuit. He was a prominent member of the Irish cricket club Leinster CC.
He spent more than two years practicing to hit it straight and clean out of the fences. As a bowling all-rounder, Carlos Brathwaite fits in all the situations and format of the game, his massive arms and great height with more than the required body mass index allow him to hit the good ball out of the ground.
Just before entering the West Indian domestic cricket, Carlos Brathwaite was going great in the Ireland Club Cricket Leinster beating Donemena Cricket Club to win the Bob Kerr Irish Senior Cup final in 2009.
Just like his performances in Ireland, he was picked up by the Barbados Cricket team for the domestic season in 2010. Carlos Brathwaite made his first-class debut against Trinidad and Tobago, this time with his delightful and elegant bowling figures of seven wickets for 90 runs.
Brathwaite was also the leading wicket-taker for his team in the tournament that earned him a place for the Bangladesh series to be held next year.
International Career:
Carlos Brathwaite started his T20 international career against Bangladesh; he had a humble performance in the match. Brathwaite was given another chance in the same season, this time he was selected for ODI team against the same opposition.
After being sluggish in the technique, Carlos Brathwaite was benched for more than three years. Though he was a good hitter, his improvisation and technique weren’t good enough to compete in the International arena.
Brathwaite practiced in the period by taking part in the local club cricket and leagues. From 2011 to 2015, Brathwaite played for Barbados Tridents, a team in Caribbean Premier League in 2013 and Antigua Hawksbills in the 2014 season of the CPL.
In the 2015 version of the updated Caribbean Premier League, Carlos was drafted by St Kitts and Nevis Patriots with a great run in the whole tournament.
Brathwaite performances in the domestic leagues finally got him in the International cricket. He was picked for the series against Sri Lanka in 2015 summers.
Before the series, his best first-class performance came against Sri Lankan Board President XI with a 198-run partnership coming in at number 8 in the home series. It is the best first-class performance by Carlos Brathwaite till date.
After four years, Carlos Brathwaite was finally given the test cap in a test series against Australia. He had a great start to the test career, that too at MCG and on 26 December in the Boxing Day test.
He stunned the audience fighting the fiery pace of Aussie bowlers coming at number 8 and making 51-run fighting inning. In the second match, he was impressive again by a quick 50 and a respectable bowling performance.
ICC WT20 2016 & IPL:
Before the world Cup in 2016, Carlos Brathwaite was drafted in IPL with a base price of INR 30 lakhs; he was selected for INR 4.2 crores, the highest bid for a newcomer in the IPL. He proved his worth by playing a crucial role for Delhi Daredevils in all the matches of the 2016 season of Indian Premier League.
After two months in ICC World T20 2016, West Indies were the World Champions and the credit of making it real was wholly given to Carlos Brathwaite.
Carlos Brathwaite 4 sixes in a row when 19 were needed in the last over seemed impossible unless Brathwaite did it with the blistering sixes all over the ground.
The sixes won the World Cup, second in the history of ICC T20 format. Brathwaite was the first West Indian to hit four sixes in a row.
After the World Cup, Brathwaite was handed the captaincy of the T20 team after Sammy was surprisingly sacked from the team as a player and a captain.
Carlos Brathwaite was signed by the PSL franchise Quetta Gladiators for the second edition of the Pakistan Super League 2017.

Brathwaite has played three tests and has scored 185 runs with 37 average in batting along with three half centuries. His track record in ODIs isn’t good as he has an average of 10 in the seven ODIs.
In T20 internationals, Carlos Brathwaite scored 99 in nine innings at an average above 14. In league matches including the International premier leagues and domestic leagues, Carlos Brathwaite have played 63 matches coming to bat in 46 innings, his strike rate of 152 with a batting average of 14 is justified with his batting order coming at number 8.

Carlos Brathwaite has a girlfriend named Jessica Felix. Her affair with Carlos Brathwaite surfaced in ICC WT20 2016 in India when she came all the way from the USA to India to see her hubby perform for West Indies.
Both had a passionate kiss on the ground after West Indies won the T20 World Cup 2016 with Carlos’ one man show at Eden Gardens.
